STEP 01
CONTEXTUAL INQUIRY

In the initial stage of the project, we wanted to understand the current flow of Linkedin through the eyes of a natural user. We targeted college seniors as they are some of the most frequent users.
We conducted a contextual inquiry session with 3 of these users, allowing them to guide us through their personal job searching process within the platform. Our observations collected data regarding:
USER STRATEGY + INTUITION
PATTERNS IN NAVIGATION FLOW
FUNCTIONAL LIMITATIONS

CULTURAL MODEL

FLOW MODEL
STEP 02
MODELING + MAPPING
We then broke down our observations into a couple models to help visualize our understanding of the app's functionality, and highlight any current flaws to address in our redesign
Along with our models, we used insights from the contextual inquiry to develop a user journey map that broke down core user objectives and actions.
POTENTIAL DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES
- More tailored search functionality
- Limit redundant interaction cycles
- Browse jobs based on existing connections
- Minimal navigation to saved + applied jobs
USER JOURNEY MAP

STEP 03
DESIGNING + EVALUATING

LOW-FIDELITY HORIZONTAL
PROTOTYPE #1
+ specified search categories
+ multiple location selection
+ simplified filters and layout
HEURISTIC EVALUATION!
we evaluated prototype #1 against Nielsen's 10 usability heuristics to address any weaknesses in our design.
the "specified search categories" revealed some flawed functionality, so that was the main pivot in addition to a few layout changes
LOW-FIDELITY VERTICAL
PROTOTYPE #2
+ optimized layout
+ stack keywords
+ save search queries

JOBS HOME PAGE
SEARCH WINDOW

STEP 04
WIREFRAMING + TESTING
HIGH-FIDELITY HORIZONTAL
PROTOTYPE #3
We used Figma to wireframe our design with functional but minimal navigation. This prototype was taken through usability testing, which addressed any last changes to make in our final prototype
THE FINAL REDESIGN

NEW DESIGN
+ QUICKER NAVIGATION
jobs organized into modules: saved/applied, within network, suggested
+ OPTIMIZED SEARCH FEATURES
stack multiple queries (AND/OR?)
save searches for future sessions
+ SIMPLIFIED UI
increased filter control
